A Healing Journey Beyond the Standard Protocol
In 2023, Dena Gutowski—a practitioner of Reiki, Chinese Medicine, and Qigong—began working with Michael Pitts. Michael, a long-term care patient at ECMC recovering from a severe brain injury, was structurally rigid and unable to speak.
Where standard medical protocols reached their limits, Dena saw an opportunity to bring holistic, restorative energy to his care, knowing that Reiki, Chinese Medicine, and Qigong help prepare the body and mind to connect with the awaiting soul.
Over time, her consistent visits began returning life and movement to his body.
As Michael’s healing progressed, he hit a pivotal threshold, showing signs of frustration and anger toward staff and family. Recognizing that he was navigating a profound inner struggle, Dena acted on a strong intuition.
Just a week prior, Jon had reached out to her about a potential podcast project, but Dena felt called toward something far greater. Knowing Jon understood the transformative power of vocal chanting after watching what it had done for his grandfather, Dena reached out to him, trusting that sound could serve as a powerful force to pull Michael through his spiritual and soul challenges and remind him not to give up.
Jon brought the harmonium into Michael’s room, and through resonant sound waves and intentional chanting, something shifted. With every visit, the vibration helped break through the stagnation, lifting his spirit and helping bring him back to life.
Having witnessed firsthand how these ancient methods work within a clinical setting, Dena and Jon continue to visit regularly. Their story is one of hope, and their goal is to bring this integrated, intuitive care to more individuals in need.
